Brief Introduction
 
Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) is a key university directly under the Ministry of Education of the P. R. China. The university, which is one of the largest in China, is distinctive among institutions of higher education. It covers a set of disciplines: philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, agriculture, science, engineering, medicine and management. The University offers a variety of programs, including 78 undergraduate programs, 248 Master programs, 173 doctoral programs and 22 post-doctoral research centers. The University has group of distinguished research faculty and first-class teaching staffs. The number of current enrolled students is over 60, 000, of which more than 35,000 are undergraduate students, 20, 000 are graduate students, and 800 are international students. By far the University has established good collaborative relationships with more than 50 renowned universities and corporations all over the world.
 
The University ranks as one Chinese leading university in comprehensive strength. It possesses the CETNET center of Central China, National High-Performance Computing Center (Wuhan), Wuhan National Laboratory for Photoelectron, Technical Center for Modern Education and a large scale of modern laboratories with advanced equipment for teaching and research.
 
The University is located in Wuhan, which is the capital city of Hubei Province in the central part of China. The campus nestled at the foot of Yujia hill and beside the East Lake with green grass scattered all round on its 500 hectares of land. The campus covers a broad area with verdant trees and green lawns everywhere, the green environment and beautiful sceneries make the University an ideal place for studying and research. Inside Wuhan city there are natural sceneries such as the East Lake, places of cultural and historic interest like Yellow Crane Tower and GuiRMB Temple. While inside Hubei Province, circumjacent places of interest are the world renowned Three Gorges of the Yangtze River, immense supernatural Shennongjia Forest, and Mount Wudang-a famous mountain of Kongfu and Taoism.
 
Education for International Students
 
The University has been accepting international students studying in China since 1960s. For over 40 years it has cultivated more than 3000 international students of various majors from more than 40 countries and districts. Most of them have obtained bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or doctoral degrees that conferred by Huazhong University of Science and Technology. They have become outstanding engineers and technicians, famous medical experts, government administrators or officials in their embassies in China after they graduate. Currently, there are more than 700 degree-seeking students among all the enrolled international students.
 
All the programs in the University are open to international students studying for degrees or advanced education. Meanwhile, the University has one research center for Chinese Language Teaching as a Foreign Language with a strong group of teaching faculty offering Chinese Language courses and Chinese Culture courses. The International Student Office has been established for the administration of international students. The University offers two types of “President Scholarship” to outstanding international students: (1) full scholarship (including tuition waiver and living stipend); (2) partial scholarship (including tuition waiver).

Facilities on campus
 
1.       There are post office and banks offering convenient services such as mailing, RMB exchanging, ATM service.
2.       Several supermarkets and 8 standardized students’ canteen for convenient shopping, and economical dining.
3.       Football court, ground track field, gymnasium, stadium for ball games, natatorium, students’ center, students’ service center, piano room and dancing hall;
4.       Cafe, libraries and bookstores near the International Students Apartment;
5.       There is a big market on the campus where fresh vegetables, fruits, meat and eggs are available everyday with great variety, favorable price and high quality. Students can cook by themselves, which is quite economical.
6.       The affiliated hospitals of the University, Tongji and Union hospitals are renowned first-rate hospitals in China. On the campus there is a hospital for the staff where medical and health care are offered.

Information for Prospective Students
 
1.       Entry Qualification:
      Applicants for Master’s degree must have obtained Bachelor’s degree;
      Applicants for Doctoral degree must have obtained Master’s degree.
2.       Date of enrollment:
      One who wishes to enroll in the fall semester should submit his/her application before June 30, and one who wishes to enroll in the spring semester should submit his/her application before December 30. (Extension is permitted in special cases).
3.       Necessary Documents for Application
a) Complete and submit the Application Form for international students wishing to study in China (Applicants can download it from the University’s website);
b) A copy of passport with photo.
c) A notarized copy of the highest diploma and trans cripts necessary for the degree students.
4.       Procedure 
a) Apply for X visa in the Chinese embassy in the applicant’s home country with Form JW202 and Admission Notification.
b) Take the required physical examination in the applicant’s home country and bring original document of the Physical Examination Record for Foreigners to Huazhong University of Science and Technology. 
c) Notify the International Students Office of the University after booking the plane tickets.
d) The University arranges pick-up service in the airport.
5.       Academic and degree certificates
a) A degree seeking student who has completed all the courses according to schedule and the total credit hours will be awarded a diploma as well as a Bachelor's, Master's or Doctoral degree certificate in accordance with the Academic Degree Regulations of the People’s Republic of China.
b) A non-degree seeking student will be issued a certificate of completion of studies upon all the relevant requirements have been met.
